PHIL-IRI is one of the projects of Department of Education that addresses the needs of the students in reading which supports their aims to make every Filipino child a reader and a writer. PHIL-IRI is composed of different reading passages from both English and Filipino literature. In this inventory, there are three (3) kinds of graded passages to determine the individual student's performance in oral, silent reading and listening comprehension. This Phil-IRI may be used with other reliable tools for assessing the reading comprehension. Students who will get 13-below out of 20-item questions in the GST examination will undergo the PHIL-IRI intervention program.
RESULTS OF GST 7 AND 8
The Group Training Test (GST) is conducted before the start of the intervention program. This is to collect the data about the names and number of students who need intervention in reading. There are 805 out of 820 grade 7 students who need intervention in reading while in grade 8, there are 723 out of 761 students. This number of students who will need an intervention is really alarming specially at their age, so Filipino and English Department will be conducting a reading intervention program this October 2019 to February 2020 to improve the reading comprehension skills of the students.
